Masturbation is the act of sexually pleasuring ones own genitals, and it is practiced among the majority of people, no matter what race, ethnicity, or religion. Masturbation also happens to be a hot-button issue, meaning that most people don't want to talk about it even though they have strong feelings either for or against. Because masturbation is a touchy and hushed subject, there are many myths and misunderstandings that have become commonly believed. Let's clear up the fog surrounding this issue and talk frankly about masturbation and you.

Despite rumors, you will not become blind, you cannot get an STD, you will not limit your ability to have kids one day, and hair will not grow on the palms of your hands if you masturbate. And no, every time you touch yourself down there you are definitely not killing any kittens anywhere. Where in the world do these ridiculous myths come from? Masturbation is a sexual activity, and just like any other sexual activity, it produces negative consequences in your life when experienced outside of a healthy and committed marriage. The problem with masturbation is that most people will not or cannot do it without some visual or mental stimulation.

More often then not, when a person masturbates, the person typically uses a form of pornography or fantasizes about a specific person he or she knows. This can include looking at pictures on a computer, reading racy stories in a book or magazine, or even thinking sexually about someone you have a crush on at school. When you do any of this you are releasing chemicals in your brain that will bring about negative consequences for you in the future. For more on these chemicals and what they do, check out our article on Porn HERE.

Some medical studies have found that there are health benefits linked to masturbation, but the same is true for sex as a whole. Sex is good, and being sexually stimulated and pleasured can feel extremely good, but it can also be as equally harmful if experienced outside of the intended boundaries. I know it is hard to abstain from sexual activity before marriage, but if you choose to see it through it will pay off for you in the future. Someday, when you find yourself married to the man or woman of your dreams in your honeymoon suite, you will be able to experience the best sex ever to the fullest, and experience it again, and again, and again...
